So every time someone darkens their skin, perhaps by tanning or using bronzer, we need to chastise that person? How about if someone tries to lighten their skin? Is that different? A significant portion of the world population does one or the other of these actions. Am I supposed to try and maintain my skin color (a brown person who varies in shade according to the seasons and mood) and be put in a strict mold by such people as the ones up in arms about this article?
While we’re at it, let’s limit what kind of hairstyles people can have too. Cornrows should be strictly for black people and smooth hair for white. As an Asian, I’m going to have to stop curling my hair too.
Yes, I can understand the term ‘blackface’ being derogatory due to its roots. But the action of skin darkening itself is not and the photo itself is in no way a caricature. Beyonce is not a white person making a mockery of black people. She is part black and darkened her skin for a beauty shoot. I guess she should have not contributed to the idea that dark is beautiful.
Let me just be clear on something. I’m not a Beyoncé stan, if you watch my previous posts you’ll know that. But my thing about it is this… There is a distinct difference between OVER-RATED & OVEREXPOSED! I can say that Beyoncé may have been in the past, Overexposed! But what about Beyoncé is Over-rated? Can she not sing? Can she not give you a show? Does she not give you a show every time she arrives? Granted she’s human, she does have some off days. We saw that in Orlando. But at the end of the day …Does Beyoncé not show the fuck up & show the fuck out!? So my thing is what about Beyoncé is over-rated? There’s nobody in the industry right now that’s giving me (female artist) that is giving me the FULL package, like Beyoncé is giving me. From the look, to the sound, to the stage presence, to the dancing, to the theatrics all in one! (goes on to compare some other female pop artists to her).
…But I feel like Beyoncé gives me the FULL PACKAGE! So you can say whatever you want to say about Beyoncé, you can critique her like I have in the past. Doesn’t matter! At the end of the day Beyoncé in my opinion will be LEGENDARY, if she continues doing what she’s doing! Because at the end of the day, NO female artist is fucking with her, because they’re not giving me the full package the way that I want! THAT’S ALL I’M SAYING!
And you can say she’s OverExposed, but what about Beyoncé is Over-rated!?
